There is never a bad time to start your orthodontic treatment. Dr Gina Lee and the North Durham Orthodontics team have three suggestions why summer is a wonderful time to start orthodontic treatment with Invisalign and Invisalign Teen as well as traditional braces.
The top reason is your schedule. Since school is out for most youth and teens there is greater flexibility in all of our schedules for appointments. Our adult patients tell us that they find that summer allows them more flex time and vacation.
Second, summer allows time for the adjustment to braces. There are a few dietary restrictions with traditional braces and it takes time to adjust to brushing and flossing when you have traditional braces.
As for Invisalign and Invisalign Teen we use a series of progressively changing transparent aligners that are each worn for two weeks. The aligners are precisely made with exact calculations to shift your teeth into their ideal position gradually giving you a beautiful straight smile. With Invisalign you don’t have the restrictions as traditional braces since you can remove them while eating, brushing and flossing. However, getting used to wearing the trays for most of the day, keeping them clean and changing to the next tray as prescribed takes some getting used to. The flexibility of summer really helps this transition.
Third, which is the best reason, is that you or your teen may start to show results by back-to-school time. If you start Invisalign treatment in May, there will likely be a dental adjustment that will begin to show by fall. The treatment will not be complete for the first day of school but the confidence boost that the new and improving smile will give is worth the time you gave it this summer.
Our team at North Durham Orthodontics is committed to providing you and your teen with the very best orthodontic care to achieve the smile you deserve.
